Highlights of Railway Budget 2013:
 
Set up their own industrial park to manufacture various components for rail operation

Setting up of mechanised laundry service at zonal levels

Set up `Jan Ahaar` outlets at every station to provide good quality food at reasonable rates to passengers

More than 100 new trains introduced

SMS-based service for passengers to lodge complaints against rail services from anywhere in the country

Diesel Loco shed is started in Assam

Green toilet manufacturing unit in Nagpur

 Work on wagon factory in Orissa to begin after land is acquired.

Manipur capital Imphal to be soon connected to railway network.

 Centre for excellence in software to be set up at Darjeeling.


Work on upgrading 442 stations to be completed by March 31.

Decision to start pilot projects to give shelter to homeless people living along the tracks in Mumbai. 
 Multi-purpose smart card to be introduced for all-India travel.

Airport-like trolleys to be provided at more stations. 

Railways to set up a sports cadre. 

Upgraded class of air conditioned travel to be introduced shortly.

 To adopt modern technology through centres of academic excellence
 Train to run to Bangladesh to showcase Indian culture. Age for senior citizen’s concession reduced to 58 from 60. 

  Railway Budget 2013 – 2014 will be live telecasted at DD National, DD News and Lok Sabha TV Channels on 25 February 2011 from 12 pm noon. It will also live telecasted at NDTV, IBNlive, Aajtak and other leading English and Hindi news channel.
