India is going to celebrate 63rd republic day on 26th January 2012. The republic day of India is the day in which the constitution of India came into action by replacing the modified colonial Government of India act. And Indians calling this day, republic day. Even though India got freedom on 28 August 1947, India became a republic only on 26 January 1950.  

 In 2012 Republic day comes on Saturday January 26 2012. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will be the chief guest during India's Republic Day celebration in 2013. The Republic Day of India is celebrated to mark the adoption of the Constitution of India and the transition of India to a republic on January 26, 1950. It is one of the three national holidays in India. 

Republic Day Celebration:

The day begins with paying homage to national leaders and martyrs. Then the President will hoist the national flag the tricolour amid the the singing national anthem. This is followed by distribution of Ashok Chakra and other bravery awards to the awardee by the president. In state capital Governor will hoist the national flag.

Republic Day Parade:

Every year a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, from the Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort. The parade includes latest armoury, missiles and army vehicles.

The different regiments of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force march past in all their finery and official decorations. Even the horses, camels, elephants of the cavalry are attractively caparisoned to suit the occasion. The President of India who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute.

Floats showcasing the cultures of the various states and regions of India are part of the grand parade, which is broadcast nationwide on television (Doordarshan) and radio. Also part of the parade are children who win the National Bravery Award for the year. The parade ends with a flypast by Indian Air Force jets.
