Cabinet Reshuffle (India) has been begun today on Jan 19, 2011 (Wednesday) at 5 PM and this Cabinet reshuffle seems to occur major changes in portfolios. Cabinet reshuffle and expansion of the Union Council of Ministers has begun and Praful Patel was first to be sworn in as Cabinet minister. This is the first Cabinet reshuffle in the UPA-II after it retained power in May 2009. As per latest news related to Cabinet Reshuffle Praful Patel, Sriprakash Jaiswal and Salman Khurshid were raised as Cabinet ministers.
What is cabinet shuffle ? – In the parliamentary system a cabinet shuffle or reshuffle is an informal term for an event that occurs when a head of government rotates or changes the composition of ministers in their cabinet. Commonly, a cabinet shuffle refers to certain ministers being shifted from one portfolio to another. Cabinet shuffles happen periodically as moving ministers is often necessary to replace ministers who have resigned or retired.
The following are the reshuffled council of ministers of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, which has three ministers raised to Cabinet rank:
